Decompress is a private three-minute reflection app for closing the work day or checking in with personal life, and seeing gentle local patterns over time. I do not want to get into the business of farming information, so my application will not store this.

If you have a question that isn’t answered here, email support@picksley.ai and I’ll get back to you.

Common Questions

Does Decompress upload my reflections?

No. Reflections, transcripts, summaries, and patterns are stored on your device only. There is no Decompress backend, no cloud sync, and no remote AI service receives your reflection content.

Are audio recordings saved?

No. The microphone stream is used live to produce a transcript and is then discarded. The app does not write audio files to disk.

What if speech recognition stops working?

You can type into the transcript box during a reflection. Speech recognition depends on your device, locale, permissions, and Apple’s on-device recognition availability. If you previously denied microphone or speech permission, you can re-enable it from iOS Settings > Privacy & Security > Microphone (and Speech Recognition) > Decompress.

Does my reflection get sent to an AI service?

No. Local summaries are computed on-device. On iPhones with Apple Intelligence (iPhone 15 Pro, 15 Pro Max, iPhone 16 family, iPhone 17 family, and later), Decompress can use Apple’s on-device Foundation Models framework to improve the receipt wording. That model runs locally on your phone & your reflection text does not leave the device.

Why do I see ads, and what do they collect?

The free version of Decompress shows a small banner ad on the Home and History screens, served by Google AdMob. Ads do not appear during a reflection. The app does not request App Tracking Transparency permission, so AdMob serves non-personalised contextual ads via SKAdNetwork. Decompress does not share your reflection content, stress ratings, transcripts, or summaries with any advertising service.

If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, you can revisit your ad consent choices any time from Settings > Privacy > Ad privacy options.

How do I remove ads?

Open Settings > Remove ads > tap Ad-Free Forever. This is a one-time non-consumable purchase associated with your Apple ID. You can restore it on any device signed in to the same Apple ID using the Restore Purchases button on the same screen.

How do I export or delete my data?

Open Settings > Clean Sweep. From there you can prepare a JSON export, share it using the iOS share sheet, or delete all reflections saved on this device. Deletion is immediate and permanent on the device.

How do I change reminders?

Open Settings > Reminders. Adjust the work shutdown time, toggle the weekly personal check-in, choose a personal day, then tap Update reminders. The first time you do this, iOS will ask for permission to send local notifications.

Decompress doesn’t replace therapy, right?

Right. Decompress is a personal reflection tool, not therapy, medical care, or a crisis service. If you need professional support, please contact an appropriate practitioner or, in an emergency, your local emergency service. In the UK, Samaritans are available 24/7 on 116 123 or at samaritans.org.
